The Martin D28 Acoustic guitar hasn’t changed much since it was unveiled in 1934 by the C.F. Martin Co. of Nazareth, PA. Renown for its booming sound, the Martin d28 quickly became a country music favorite—notable fans included Hank Williams, George Jones and Elvis Presley.
Today the Martin D28 Acoustic guitar has an unrivalled reputation for pure sound and overall durability. Though they are not cheap—prices for a Martin D28 guitar usually run into a couple grand—they are significant investments that generally increase in value over the years. (My father just sold his martin d-28 from the 90s for about 10 grand.) [click to continue…]
Dear Martin D28 Acoustic Guitar,
So I’m playing my martin d28 guitar…and it sounds great. But I got a question…which strings are gonna make this guitar sounds its best.
Thx

Dear Jim,
This reminds me of an argument I had recently about who’s hotter: Scarlet Johansson or Megan Fox. In the end it’s more of a subjective thing.
That’s how I see choosing which guitar strings to throw onto your Martin. A couple of things to ask yourself:
-You want coated or uncoated?
-Which gauge?
-You want phospor bronze or 80/20 bronze?
When I played at Sea World we’d go with a Elixir80/20 Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings
. (Because of the saltwater–and maybe the dolphins.)
I’ve also used D’Addario Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings
–those are very nice. But I think my overall faves have always been the Martin SP Acoustic guitar strings
. (Not just because it’s a Martin guitar.) I find them to be very bright and nice–and they don’t seem to break as often.
That would be my recommendation. But try a few out–and see what works best for you.
Need more proof that a Martin D28 Acoustic Guitar is the perfect addition to a songwriting repertoire? Here’s a song written by singer/songwriter Kerri Weidemann.
She calls the song a mix of Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake. Sounds good. You should check it out and hear those sweet Martin D28 Guitar tones!
There ain’t no guitar tone in the world like a Martin D28 Acoustic Guitar. Don’t believe me–just ask those Nashville musicians who lost the guitars in the flood. (A lot of Martin D28 Guitars were lost.) Anyway, you all know about the sitka spruce tip, the glossy finish, polished back, the East Indian rosewood…yadda yadda. It’sa bout the friggin’ sound, and this one has got the smoky rich tone Nashville has been usin’ since 1926. So if you’re in the 7 percent minority who throws lefty, here’s a great Lefthanded Martin D28 Guitar to add to your collection. You won’t be sorry.

Since it offers a dark, warm tone with plenty of projection, solid East Indian Rosewood is used for the back and sides. The guitar is capped with a solid piece of select Sitka Spruce for bright, clean highs. Select Mahogany supports a 20-fret finger...

I know this is a bit off-topic but this is a great little story about a physician–who happens to play bluegrass–and the Martin D28 acoustic guitar that played such a pivotal role in his son’s wedding. It’s about sons, fathers, time…and most importantly the Martin D28 guitar. A fabulous little tale about a fabulous guitar.
I never thought solid Adirondack spruce could be so sexy. But this martin D28 acoustic guitar has some of the sweetest tones I’ve ever heard. This Martin D28 Marquis may not look like the most exciting guitar from the picture–what do you want, a friggin obnoxious ibanez flying ‘v’. But this modified design, and Sitka golden era back braces produces a major league martin d28 that Elvis would have loved even more than banana and peanut butter.
